When’s Chocolate Day?

Monday, December 25th, 2006

Calender_1_mediumThis is my latest feel good purchase- no its not a new bag, but a Save our Fireflies 2007 calender! Went out for lunch with Cheryl and Su at BSC the other day.. on our way out we were approcahed by these kids.. asking us "would you like to buy this calender and save the fireflies?"…well the save the fireflies part just hit my enviro nerve..hit Cheryl’s and Su’s as well.. so we bought a few. I saw some adults with the kids and it turns out they were from the Malaysian Natures Association- Cheryl knew them cos MNA was working on something at her boyfriend’s studio.

Calender_2_medium The calender is A.D.O.R.A.B.L.E. they have drawings done up by school kids ranging from 8-11 years old and they’re pretty good. this one is my favorite- if you click on the pic you could actually see the droopy eyes on the fireflies..ahh melt my heart.

Plus now i know when’s Chocolate Day (there is such a day), Save the Hippo Day, World Hug Day and loads more, i cant remember off hand..the calender’s at the office. This calender has that spunk and is wayy better than the usual labor day, sultan’s birthday calender..hihi.

Not sure if they’re still at BSC but if you see them there or anywhere- do buy the calender, you’ll be saving the pretty animals..you’ll have many more "days" to celebrate (chocolate day? ;p)..and you’ll take away this nice warm feel good feeling with you…that is priceless. and the calender is comel!

Labor Habitat

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

it’s a pretty comfortable space, lots of leg room, storage, work area and also conducive to grow money plants- all of these decscribe my workstation where i spend a bulk of my time in a day.

im thankful that its not some crampy, claustrophobically small space. i’m guessing it would be torturous to be working in such an environment.

of course being me i cant live in a space without adding some personal touches- hey my work is rather heavy and having a perky workstat helps- boring la having a workstat thats just filled with papers, files, and more files though i do have those on my table too.

Frosty_summer_medium_1 meet Mr Frosty Summer

My faithful PC companion thanks to Su- she got it for me cos she knows how much i looovee christmas decor! terbalik..i should be getting her a gift for christmas..well trow i hope to go hunting for some gifts, im sure i’d be able to get some nice pressies.

Mug_medium_1  this is my dedicated mickey’s ass mug for my air suam hihi

i cant drink coffe in it cos tak tahan panas-have a different mug for that one but no pic so too bad…at the back of mickey’s ass is a pic of my lovely folks (important to incorporate the family element).

Giant_medium and the Giant Beanstalk

the reason why i said my workstat is conducive for plants- i got it at Ikea..was waaaayy smaller then, but now it has grown and is creeping around my workstat..which is nice…i like it ..lagi-lagi now that i’ve turned into such an enviro hippie..haha.

my colleagues believe like its a gospel that i have green hands..so much so that my boss gave me her almost dead orchid to try and revive ;p but really i think the plant is healthy by pure chance and God’s grace cos all i do is just water it * wink*

im considering a new look for my workstat next year, though the 3 featured above will remain..maybe a more kevin hill kinda workstat.. his office decor is superb…see la how.

Why do I blog?

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

Someone asked me yesterday..why do i blog? i answered..it’s therapeutic. not sure if he caught my drift cos he gave me a puzzled look and grin..haha (dont kill me mumu ;p)

so mumu here’s a slightly longer reason as to why i blog *wink*

it’s just very relaxing to walk out of the shower…moisturise…slip into your jammies..lamp on to create the perfect ambience…iTunes playing your favourite tunes (right now it’s playing Verve Pipe’s Freshman..nice)…then placing the laptop either on bed…study..anywhwere and just blog away…aahh

though of course this doesn’t beat having ur selected masque on and lying down or snuggling in bed with my folks watching Hard Talk (dad’s choice) or Judging Amy (mum’s choice) ;p but nevertheless it has it’s own spa-feeling to offer.

and blogging is not about constructing perfect sentences…cracking jokes as if this was stand up stage..or spilling every bit of your personal details…

though if u want it to be any of the above..you could do that..i find myself just ranting on…even though i realise im such a lousy writer…but i dont give two hoots! haha.

when u write and then post it…ur thought is left in this cyber space to be shared with others…people may read or they may not but the point is this microscopically small space in this vast area belongs to you…this url…this page.. is urs. that’s empowering.

and its one of the great ways to catch up…sure not the usual call-phone catch up or dinner/breakfast catch up…this is in narrative form…i read my gurlfrens’ blog and i love it when i find myself grinning…smilling..feeling intrigued…or just burst out laughing reading their post…for those few minutes that i read their blog/post im taking a ride on their roller coaster…or horse carriage…whichever…and im sure after some time they and even i can see the charts of progress…post on boyfriend..then engagement…then wedding..then..lil baby..or..post as an associate..then senior associate then manager ;p

which brings me to the next reason why i blog…blogging is the new millenia’s diary..with an infinte number of pages and space to "write" on..thats a good deal!…though i still keep the traditional diary for personal-can’t-share-stories… i have a diary that i share with others and one that i dont..the perfect balance.

but of course in today’s day and age there’s no compulsion in these things..blog if u want to or dont blog…but try it out…u may think ure a lousy writer but you’d be surprised… that people may actually enjoy lousy stuff ;p or u could turn out to be talented…and who knows you might find blogging…..slightly…..a little or even very….therapeutic. *wink*

To Oral Wisdom and Mudskippers

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

I’ve got 3 damn wisdom tooth…2 in my lower jaw which will be permanently stuck underneath my gums (thank God) cos they are blocked by my second molar (im delivering the exact explanation Dr Belinda gave me just a few minutes ago ;p) and the other one in my upper jaw which is making an entrance and is giving me some very unwanted pain- so i’m going to have to undergo minor surgery to remove it….yes minor surgery! *sigh*

can’t wait to get this dental episode done and over with..God knows i’ve had quite a number of them already since i was 15 cos i wore braces..monthly dental appointments..the whole deal!

K that’s the dental segment of this post.

I’ve yet to prepare for my case presentation for tomorrow’s Siyasah Syariah class (Syariah Oriented Public Policy) sounds scary but it’s actually a pretty intellectually stimulating class- covers some political economy, muslim revivalism, policy formulation, fiqh..enriching! (ok i should stop before i cross the nerd line) hihi

Though material/fact-finding for the course is a bit difficult cos most of the materials are in Arabic…( menyesal betul for not taking my Arabic courses in Matric seriously). The main reference for the course is Yusuf Qardhawi’s book which yes was published in the holy language..so it looks like I’m going to spend a lot of time with the dic and Raihan ;p (babe need ur help on this one).

I’ve started working on my project for the Environmental Studies course…collecting newspaper articles on the environment and turning it into a scrap book- old school? unconventional? yea. but it’s very fulfilling cos its an eye opener to the many many on-goings with Mother Nature…plus i get to cut and paste like old times (macam masa in sekolah rendah ;p).

That’s not the end of it..obviously each Masters course will require you to submit a term paper which i will have to do. Maybe i’ll write on the new species of mudskippers that was just discovered (they’re really cute) or on mangrove swamp conservation…mana-mana la..haha.

Yesterday I checked out Zoo Negara’s website to see if they needed volunteers and hey they do…yes i know what a sight for sore eyes to see ms nadia cleaning out elephant poop..feeding lions…..laugh la but i’m sure i’ll have a blast! my one-on-one with the animal kingdom ;p

hmmm i must say that i’m amazed at how fast im turning into an enviro-hippie- taking environmental studies, volunteering at the local zoo, pestering cheryl to take me to the elephant sanctuary.. but i’m loving it!

I think i’m on the right track…..it’s always best to do a little bit of everything.

Off the Radar Folks

Brad Pitt @ the Gate
My hands would usually be raging in my bag searching for my office tag as I drive up the driveway and when I “just in time” get my hands on the darn tag..get the screen down I see him ..standing tall….with a smile so wide…. bidding me a warm, sincere Salam or Good Morning…this guy is none other than our security personnel at the SC. I am not describing one security personnel but all of them…everyday it’s a different guy…I’m sure they have a roster. Kesian la if the same guy has to do the same job +/- 365 days a year ;p

It just brings out that “feel good” feeling in you to hear them greet u with such energy and enthusiasm. Don’t think there’s any other perfect way to enter the workplace. It sure beats those parking areas where the guy just stamps the ticket and hands it over to u…no smile…just a face yang macam tak mandi pagi..haha.

Hats off! The security personnel at the SC may not come close to looking like Brad Pitt but they sure can match his smile. (wink)

Germbusters from India
Yup the imported workers from India…I recognise all of them cos I often see them so diligently wiping and cleaning every inch of the surface they’re instructed to clean…it’s as though they were made to believe an epidemic will spread if they left out an inch of the surface.

I say hello and hi everytime and they seem to appreciate it a lot- or maybe I’m just being perasan..haha but I gather that if they put down their cloth and sterilizer spray down just to wave a hello back then I’m taking that they appreciate me greeting them 

Ibu’ Indonesia

The cleaning ladies..this time flown from Indonesia…who go from workstation after workstation cleaning out our bins, wiping the work area then vacuuming the carpet… they are just angels. They clean out the place well…at least my place….and they do it twice a day…once in the morning and after lunch…u know they’re coming when u hear the sound of vacuum suctions :p

The ones that cleans the ladies and gents too deserves to be mentioned here…I always see their RubberMaid trolleys parked outside… part of their Key Performance Indicators are making sure that tissue rolls, drying napkins are enough and the toilet seats, tap heads floor, are disinfected. I’m definitely thankful that they do all that. I have a bit of an OCD when it comes to toilets.

I dare vouch that the restrooms here in the SC are pretty clean..hihi.

Well you must be wondering why am I going on and on about these folks…well it’s cos this post is especially for those who sometimes go unnoticed, the Brad Pitts, Germbusters and Ibu’s… whose service we may either intentionally or unintentionally take for granted. I believe they deserve a shoutout…and a lot of thanks for what they do.

It’s just plain wrong to use up all this cyber “space” just to talk bout me me and only me ..it would be less ditzy blonde and more corporate citizen and plain human to mention those that are off the radar. People behind the curtains… whom without them the show may still go on but I’m pretty sure the show won’t run.. as smoothly or perfectly.
