ROSC Launch

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Just before I blog on my trip – I need to document my most deepest satisfaction and almost glory-like feeling when the event that I have been working on for the past few months ran glitch-free!

It was an event co-organised by the SC and the World Bank. So it was a huge deal especially for me since it was my first take of handling anything of this nature.

The event…Launch of the Corporate Governance-Report on the Observance of Standards and Codes…was graced by Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, and captains of the industry! The hall was full that I was worried we didn’t have enough seats- members of the press turned up in full force.. as in gila ramai.

It was pretty overwhelming to have all the influential peeps around at the event. Me the “baru setahun jagung” as the Malay saying goes looking at all those CEOs with great aspirations of one day becoming a captain myself..yes Nadia continue dreaming.

It was lovely too to meet the World Bank officials that I have been corresponding with via email to get the show together..when we met it was like we’ve been best buds for years…with the big hey!hello!strong hand shake!

And of course meeting the great shareholder activist Professor Hasung Jang. aahh yess

Wow when he spoke on all the shareholder activism work he’s done and the many corporate criminals he’s brought to justice- you just feel like dropping everything and joining him. The combination of passion + intelligence is superb!

I had many late nights at the office on the days running up to the event, finalizing speeches, presentations, logistic arrangements and the other small-small details that like to pop up at the very last minute…this is almost like a teaser to planning my wedding (when I decide to ring my wedding bells that is) perhaps I’ll have a presentation for the wedding..hmmm… thoughts… thoughts..takpe I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.

It was choc –a- bloc for me that Friday..the launch was in the morning right up to lunch, then I had to clear all my pending work before I leave the office for 2 weeks..later that evening at 6 I was due for a book review presentation and finally at 3am was my flight to London for a family hol..yes a very FULL day.

I couldn’t be bothered to pack my clothes when I got back home..the only thing I had my head up for was looking forward to snoozing my way through my 13 hour flight. In a later post I’ll tell u whether I managed to sleep or not.

But for this post, I’m thankful and relief that there was no poo poo during the event, and a HUGE, OBESE sized thank you to all those that helped out. It was a remarkable team effort. And definitely one KPI down for me. Kudos!12012007258

Dad’s speech and Everything Else

Saturday, January 6th, 2007

Al Rajhi Bank, CIMB Islamic, HSBC,Kuwait Finance House, Qatar Islamic Bank were amongst the banks that were up for grabs just now when Dr Saiful gave us the list for our assignments.  We have to present a comprehensive review of the bank’s operations, milestone, accounts etc.

Not surprising that many groups were fighting to work on Al Rajhi Bank and Kuwait Finance House..my group included. But we were more than happy when Doc told us we could work on Qatar Islamic Bank-am excited to start my investigation and present the findings…(the nerd in me..haha)

Dont underestimate these banks, KFH, AL-Rajhi and the gang..im sure if u folks are following the business news you’d know they’re making it big in many markets and making it big here as well. Am all for competition in the market- so let them come.

Dad is giving a speech on Monday- for some award he’ll be receiving. He wants me to look at his speech and see if it’s ok-but there’s too many technical stuff in it like Value Stream Mapping, Autonomous Maintenance..huh? so all I think I can do is kononnya fix the flow…like the essential insertions of "ladies and gentlemen" here and there..hihi

But let me say, dad’s first cut of his speech is pretty good-but knowing him and how passionate he gets when he speaks on something he’s fond off..he’ll probably just speak off the cuff and do away with all the ladies and gentlemen formalities ;p…but anyhoos..congrats Dad!

Am having a hard time trying to pick and decide on what to get Su for her wedding gift and CheryL for her going away gift.

Urghh wish I could hire a personal gift shopper to do the job for me.

Wait- what am I saying-? i love shopping!!

Possibly I’m grumpy now cos am tired after class (3 hour straight),hungry though I had briyani tadi and am sleepy.

I think I’ll shower and then nap for a while- reenergise myself and shop for pressies tonight. Yea sounds good.

2006- Birthday

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

Just before I start blogging for 2007-there are a few more posts that I owe 2006. For one- my 25th birthday celeb…

My favorite peeps at work and my dearest took me out for a treat at Maredo’s steakhouse. there’s nothing like great company and a good piece of meat served med- well ;p.  26122006038_1

Lunch ended so nicely with a lovely surprise of my own strawberry fondue with birthday candles..how very 25 year old..hihi.26122006039_2

Kuc mixed me some tracks- as in club DJ- Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Tiesto style..of course not as hebat but still hebat to my ears and heart :p hey it’s way out of his comfort zone and i think he did a swell job on it..he even started talking bout loops and stuff…things that are alien to me..i know how to listen and move to the tracks..how you mix them- i have no clue *wink*

The track is pretty good but Kuc wont believe me..have to let Nigs and Ama listen to it…i bet they’ll second me.

Thanks Kuc- you’re the best. Bear hugs + Mmmuaxx

And Su’s gift which was also unexpected- no not a mug but a hamster- that is sooo comel. She caught me by surprise cos she gave it to me a day later :p she even got me the bedding and food.27122006053_1 And the ribbon on top of the cage was a nice touch.

Meet Mr ROSC- he’s named after the Report on the Observance of Standards and Codes by the World Bank which i have been working on for the past 2 months that im now sleeping, eating, drinking IT..and heck i’ve even named my new hammie…ROSC! gila..i know. 27122006055_1 Wanted to name him Broker- but that would be too capital market-ish and tantamount to me mixing work and pleasure..haha

Azrina-my most stylo colleague got me an adorable clutch. darn i dont have a pic of it…takpe suffice u know that its adorable.

D and Fowzia had their own gifts for me- Fowzia trying to get me to paint my face more got me a lipgloss in the perfect color for me i must say and D got me a book that I unfortunately already bought- checked the book out with her. Thanks honies!

My birthday passed on well, simple and sweet. Thank you to those that remembered, for the text messages, calls, emails, and oh yea office peeps for the cake and singing that since time in memorial old birthday song. Thanks :-)
