ROSC Launch
Wednesday, January 31st, 2007Just before I blog on my trip – I need to document my most deepest satisfaction and almost glory-like feeling when the event that I have been working on for the past few months ran glitch-free!
It was an event co-organised by the SC and the World Bank. So it was a huge deal especially for me since it was my first take of handling anything of this nature.
The event…Launch of the Corporate Governance-Report on the Observance of Standards and Codes…was graced by Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, and captains of the industry! The hall was full that I was worried we didn’t have enough seats- members of the press turned up in full force.. as in gila ramai.
It was pretty overwhelming to have all the influential peeps around at the event. Me the “baru setahun jagung” as the Malay saying goes looking at all those CEOs with great aspirations of one day becoming a captain myself..yes Nadia continue dreaming.
It was lovely too to meet the World Bank officials that I have been corresponding with via email to get the show together..when we met it was like we’ve been best buds for years…with the big hey!hello!strong hand shake!
And of course meeting the great shareholder activist Professor Hasung Jang. aahh yess
Wow when he spoke on all the shareholder activism work he’s done and the many corporate criminals he’s brought to justice- you just feel like dropping everything and joining him. The combination of passion + intelligence is superb!
I had many late nights at the office on the days running up to the event, finalizing speeches, presentations, logistic arrangements and the other small-small details that like to pop up at the very last minute…this is almost like a teaser to planning my wedding (when I decide to ring my wedding bells that is) perhaps I’ll have a presentation for the wedding..hmmm… thoughts… thoughts..takpe I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.
It was choc –a- bloc for me that Friday..the launch was in the morning right up to lunch, then I had to clear all my pending work before I leave the office for 2 weeks..later that evening at 6 I was due for a book review presentation and finally at 3am was my flight to London for a family hol..yes a very FULL day.
I couldn’t be bothered to pack my clothes when I got back home..the only thing I had my head up for was looking forward to snoozing my way through my 13 hour flight. In a later post I’ll tell u whether I managed to sleep or not.
But for this post, I’m thankful and relief that there was no poo poo during the event, and a HUGE, OBESE sized thank you to all those that helped out. It was a remarkable team effort. And definitely one KPI down for me. Kudos!
